Welfare

Hi! We’re Alex Town and Meredith Wood, your Welfare Officers! We work closely together, alongside the Co-Opted officers to form your Welfare Team. We’re here for all of you — whatever the problem, big or small. We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the College Welfare phone — 07876 317 717 — which you can call any time during the term. You can also get hold of us via email hus-male@ homerton.cam.ac.uk or hus-female@ homerton.cam.ac.uk with any questions or worries you may have.

We deal with all kinds of issues, such as: Sexual health — we provide condoms, pregnancy tests and Chlamydia tests, as well as information and contact details for your use.

Mental health — ranging from academic stress, mid-term blues, depression to eating disorders, we will do our best to provide you with some sort of support. As your Welfare Officers we have links with University Counselling Service (UCS) who are full-trained counsellors (and lovely people!) employed by the university to look after your well-being.

Physical health — you can come to us with any queries about your physical health on which we can advise you, we also have a fantastic College Nurse and upon arrival you will join a local doctor’s practice. In addition to us, Homerton has a team of Peer Supporters, students trained by the UCS to help peers work through problems. They’re a friendly bunch and always willing to listen, plus they’re students, like you, and know the ups and downs of university life.

Coming to university can be scary at first, but we’re here (as are all of the HUS) to help you settle in and feel at home. If we can do anything to help you, feel free to come and ask. Or, if you just want to chat we’re here for that too!

Academic Affairs
